Deer and Rabbit Control

I know there are many repellents suggested on the web.  The answer for us has been fencing.  A strong, tall fence is fool proof.

I hope you are lucky enough to have the skills to build it yourself, or to have somebody that can build such a fence for you.  I am very thankful that my husband built ours.  It is 7 feet tall and surrounds our two-acre garden area.  Yes, it was a huge job.

Below are photos of our fence.  It is made from 10-foot long T posts sunk about 2 feet in the ground.  We attach 6-foot fence wire.  Then on top we add a few strands of barbless wire to make it taller.  And along the bottom we added a layer of two-foot tall rabbit fence.  We have ground squirrels in our area, and this fence keeps those out too.

If a fence isn’t possible for you, another great option is a motion-activated sprinkler.  The Orbit 62100 Yard Enforcer Motion Activated Sprinkler works well to detect movement from encroaching critters.  It gives them a blast of safe water to send them on their way.  It has a sensor with night only, day only, and always on activation modes.   Click here to see a YouTube video of the sprinkler in action.
